While it is important to impart correct road safety values to our pupil, the Government’s efforts cannot merely stop there. 
During off-peak hours, it is not uncommon to see heavy vehicles speed on the second or even first lane of expressways such as the Pan-Island Expressway and Kranji Expressway. 
Not only do this pose a threat to other motorists, some drivers may carry on their errant driving habits on normal roads. 
The relevant authorities might enforce the traffic laws more actively against these errant drivers. 
There would be more frequent expressway and road patrols during off-peak hours. 
Defensive driving courses could be made compulsory, if this is not already so. 
The Tampines accident is a tragedy, one that could well have been avoid.
